Metafora is a non-profit compilation of visual art and photography from Greater Toronto Area high-school students, that attempts to bridge the gap that our words sometimes leave behind. Too often, visual art in youth anthologies are overshadowed by poetry and creative fiction. The goal of Metafora is to celebrate the talent of GTA youth and provide a unique outlet for emerging artists.
The book is a physical, 22-page 6x6 hardcover flush-mounted art book. Contributors submitted copies of their work online over the month of June, from which a dedicated team of editors selected 18 pieces by 16 artists. The theme was: "beyond words". All rights are reserved by the respective authors.
Metafora is registered with Library and Archives Canada and is published under an ISBN
. Our books will be distributed through a variety of bookstores and libraries, and are currently available through Markham Public Libraries
and Toronto Public Libraries
. You can also check out an online version via the Sample
tab on this site.
A reception was held on July 3rd for all contributors and Kickstarter
backers to celebrate the launch of the first Metafora book. Pictures can be found here
